Sun Trust - Are 'Customers' really 'Victims'? How does a customer get their deposit back when the bank ignores them?

By Bill Harris, Patch Poster | Apr 2, 2019 7:41 pm ET What does a consumer do when the bank won't respond to inquiries and the largest firm of lawyers in town won't help because of a 'conflict of interest'?Well there is always some self help. The situation is that in trying to get away from marginal service at Wells Fargo a checking account was initially established at the Sun Trust in Canton. With no notice it was closed after 2 days.OK, there are a lot of financial institutions in the county, no big deal right?But what do you do when the bank refuses to return the $6,665.44 opening deposit, won't even communicate with you let alone offer a reason? Further complications result when the firm of Bray and Johnson won't touch the case due to a 'conflict of interest' the local bi-weekly paper won't take an advert critical of the bank and in fact won't even do a story about the matter.Well, there is always taking the matter to the general public via internet blogging and some informative post cards.

From my research on the net it seems that this isn't an isolated problem and in fact Sun Trust has an entire department called the 'Account Closing Department'. The issue seems simple to me, if they don't want the account then give back the money.

I think the legal terms are 'unjust enrichment' and 'conversion'. I'll keep you posted - or maybe I'll send you a post card.More info at: https://suntrustsucks.blogspot...

For the third time in as many months, my account has been locked for absolutely no reason. I have spent hours trying to clarify this and requested supervisor return phone calls each time, to no avail. Today it happened again, and I have been sitting on the phone for more than half an hour. They used to have wonderful customer service, I had been a bank Patron for 20 years, I won't be by the end of this month.

They were doing the exact same thing to me. Is there anyway to address this?

I am at a loss of what can be done. I contacted an attorney and was told they were not interested in taking my case.

Suntrust - fraud wire transfer froze acct

I have been fighting with Sun Trust bank A fraudulent wire transfer came through my account on 9/7/2017. The bank froze my checking account for one year. SERIOUSLY! ? I HAVE FIGHTING WITH BANK. I had a negative balance. Deposited total amount of the negative balance to avoid an overdraft fee. The next day I was still charged an overdraft fee. Called SUNTRUST and was given "a courtesy refund" (BS)....this restored my account....a day later, I had a positive balance and made an online transaction by that evening I had been charged another overdraft fee. I called SUNTRUST again the following morning and was told that I had items that had not cleared prior to my "courtesy refund"...which is bs because I would not have needed the "courtesy refund" if they had not wongfully given me an overdraft fee for these items when I deposited funds to correct my negative balance. I was told by a Customer Service rep manager that I need to write down all my transactions because sometimes SUNTRUST doesn't post all of your transactions online so your available balance may be inaccurate....my thought is what am I paying you for....anyway I told her you are basically telling me I can't trust you which is ironic because your bank is named "Sun - Trust". I told her that most consumers do not know that that's how you post transactions and in fact unless they calm with an issue or complaint they would not be privy to this information....her response...."that's right"....I said then your system is flawed for your customers and you guys are basically making money off of information you are not telling your consumers. She told me that my account was not eligible for another "courtesy refund"....but is it really a courtesy to me if its your mistake. You are not giving me a courtesy because its your system that is stealing from your customers. I will be closing this account and they can kiss my behind!
