Suntrust - Account Closing Review from Tybee Island, Georgia

I closed my account on 11/4. The account was closed but then reopened and attempts to withdraw money on the account incurred nsf Fees and excessive over draft fees. When contacting the branch that closed the account I was told not worry they were waiting to get the correct code to reverse the charges and then the account would be closed. 5 months later with no notification $1300 was removed from my account with no notice. It has been over a month and the money has still not been returned to my account. Even with emails saying it was there error and it was being fixed asap. As a customer of 10 years I felt I should of been treated better. Have not heard from the branch either by phone or emai in 2 weeks. Spoke to the fraud line and they couldn't tell where the money went. After being on hold 45 minutes and being told that if I hung up they would not continue to correct the problem. Left messages to get an update and they have also not been returned.

Suntrust Unlawful Repo $5K+ Fees - I'm Initiating a Class Action - All States are Welcome to Join

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I went through your exact scenario - possibly even a little bit worse at it was New Years Eve and I was lied to and ended up spending over 5K in fees and double payments for sudden refusals to post checks within two weeks, and much more jazz to ultimately not get it back for 7 days! Good news, I am an attorney who knows my way around consumer law and will keep Suntrust in Court for years and years if not eons if required to get their practises to halt. Thus, I am alerting all Suntrust Victims to meet up and unite-lets sue and that away all their computers and money counting machines and demand rare currency for its return. I am serious, I will be filling in the State of Florida under Federal Law for our sorrows-thus, any victim or simply interested person in seeing the outcome can be anywhere throughout the states, without any need to visit sunny Florida. Please, any all all, contact me shlegalfl is my firm's domain name and my contact info is there - I will build a Suntrust launch page soon - for people to vent and swap stories there if nothing else. Sorry, this happened to you, me and hundreds others....tis tis tis Suntrust!!!!

How do I get involved? Suntrust just charged me 16 overdraft fees and waived only 5, I was charged for the first one while my account was still positive an then then next 4 or 5 my account ×ohld have been positive if it were not for the overdraft charges. On top of this when I opened the account I asked that it be made so I can not overdraft, and the bank told me that it was set so if the money wasn't there it wouldn't charge me or pay it,

I would like to start a class action suit against sun trust and I know that I can find probably at least 20-50 more people. I don't understand what they are doing and why no one is reviewing their actions in so many different dept.

with our money and loans, where they are allowed to steal from us and take money at their will and then offer no explanation and freeze and close accounts without any kind of outside appeal option. however, who would want to stay with a bank after all of this unethical abuse of our accounts and our money. you can find me at bjbunn46 at the g mail , if you look up complaints about suntrust, you will read that of course there is a few of people who are just blowing off steam, however, I believe and atty will be shocked and disgusted with reading about how this bank is really abusing not just us, but alot of long term customers with no issues with their accounts, no NSF checks, no over draft issues , etc. so I have to believe that the only way to stop this abuse is to start a class action.

just think, how would your mother, grandparents or a friend who just can't go from bank to bank handle so abuse? With this bank purposely stealing hundreds to thousands of dollars for "Fees" that they can't or won't explain, and with so many on a limited income, Suntrust Bank shouldn't be able to line their pockets on the backs of your loved ones.

so lets figure this out. I believe we have a case.

Suntrust - Customer Care Review from Walton, Kentucky

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Holy cow i do not have the words to describe my incredible disgust with this company. I am a truck driver and I travel all 48 states SunTrust has been charging me $2.50 for using an ATM that quote was not there so not only do I have to pay the ATM charge of $3.99 that I use I also have to pay SunTrust $2.50 to get money out of my own account. I called customer service to complain and of course was transferred to someone in Bangladesh that could not even speak English and when I ask to speak with someone that I can understand she hung up on me I had to call back and got another Bangladesh individual with an accent just as bad that pretty much told me they did not care what I was being charged that it was part of the contract that I find when I opened an account. I am so incredibly aggravated right now that I can't even see straight I cannot wait to get home and open up an account at a credit union and be completely and totally done with anything to do with a standard bank. so not only do they not care about their customers they are outsourcing American jobs to India and making us pay them more for it.

Worst bank ever and allow people free access to your account

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
This is the worst bank i have ever the displeasure of dealing with. I own a business and have been with this bank since 2006. I have never overdrawn the account and maintain at least 80k in that account at all times except for late in the year when it goes down to about 40-50k. Sometime in March of this year, unauthorized charges were made on my account. Apparently someone wrote 2 checks totaling about $8,000 from the account. The signature signed on the check was the name of my company and they processed the check to this person twice (could be an inside job who knows). It took about 9 months and they didn't even notice the fraudulent transaction. An unrelated bank (Navy Federal Credit) alerted them to this and that is when they called me on 12/12 to inform me of this situation. I questioned why it took them so long to find this and they said i was responsible for my own account to which i replied that maybe i should be banking with the other bank (Navy Federal) that notified them of the suspicious activity. When i was informed about this transaction that took place 9 months ago, i immediately lost every bit of trust and confidence that this bank was interested in protecting my money. I also immediately started through all my statements and guess what i realized that they never sent me the statement on the month (March) this fraudulent transaction occurred. This was a red flag and led me to believe the culprit could be a bank employee. So, I went back to my 2013 statements to ensure that everything was ok and i realized that they only sent me statements from July to December 2013 and all the statements from Jan to June were missing. So i called them and requested that they send me the statements for Jan - June of 2013 and the statement from Feb along with copies of all checks written on the account to ensure no one attempted or wrote additional checks from my account. The customer service told me that they would charge me $690 to provide copies of my bank statements with the checks appended on it. I spent over 4 hours on the phone arguing my case today and the customer service representatives i spoke to just did not care and said that i would incur those charges if they sent me the copies. I told them that they never sent me the statements to begin with and i was entitled to them legally and they still refused. 4 hours later multiple representatives hung up on me because they said we weren't getting anywhere (I just could not believe this) My advice is if you have a business account with these people close it and move it elsewhere. First of all, anybody can write a check on your account and they wont care to detect it which implies they have zero security protocols and your account is just in the hands of a bunch of losers. Secondly, because of their inability to ensure that only authentic checks are allowed to clear your account, when you attempt to ensure your account is up to date and safe, they hit you with exorbitant fees. Essentially, they allow outsiders to rob you and then rob you internally when you attempt to do what they are supposed to be doing. I also bank with PNC and Capital and with these banks you can go online and print these statements and images for up to 7 years (PNC i know for a fact but not so much on Capital One). Save yourself the hassle and look for a reputable bank to do business with.

Account Closing Review

The branch employee failed to close our account as we requested. A fraudulent transaction and numerous fees occurred later and we were never notified. The employee has accepted no accountability and now we are on the hook for these fees. This is some of the worst customer service we have ever experienced.

Fraudulent Fees

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
For the third time in 2 months these *** deposited money in the wrong account (I have several) caused me to overdraft (though I have overdraft protection), charged me fees on their freaking mistake. Branch Manager said "Its not our job to watch after your money" ! What ? you're the freaking keeper of it. Called and spoke to Eric Frueh (Customer Advocacy Team - an oxymoron if ever there was) who admitted mistake then told me. Bank Policy, you're not getting the fees back. When I asked to speak to his superiors, he advised that he would not identify and that he was the final word. Man would I love to see a class action against these crooks.

Ha! I have been getting auto debited a $700 repo fee once a week-despite the car's return. I'm aflame, and invite you to check out my solution I posted as a "review" which is far to pleasant of a word for Suntrust.

I am in the beginning stages of a class action lawsuit against Suntrust bank for the same reasons you stated above and then some. I contacted Morgan and Morgan, attorneys in Florida, at 1-87*-***-**** to begin the process, I encourage you to do the same. If enough us band together, we may see change and more importantly, get our money back.

I certainly agree that the actions, and business practices of SunTrust are egregious in nature, and border on illegal. SunTrust has hired consultants to MAXIMIZE BANK FEES, and has a company policy NOT to refund any fees or charges to the customer.

Unfortunately, you need to read SunTrust policies which state that if you have a problem with the bank you can not take them to court, you have to go to arbitration.

I know this because I filed a class action lawsuit against them a few years ago. The case went all the way to the Supreme Court. Because the Supreme Court had just ruled on an AT &T class action stating you do not have the right to bring class status if you have agreed to (not opting out) of the arbitration policy of the company. The same applied to SunTrust.

On a potential good side, depending when you closed your account.

If you take them to arbitration and you are awarded only $1, SunTrust must pay you $7500. If you are awarded more than $7500 you will receive the higher amount.

Good Luck to you. For what it's worth I now bank at Bank of America and have found them to be quite good.

There is faaaaaaaaar more case law in the consumer's favor at the moment, and (even though I have no problem going to Arbitrations - the bad guy pays the bill at the end anyhow) you should check out a FL 3DCA case on the matter No. 3D07-855, which opens doors for improvement stating the clause is unenforceable;e for claims for injunctive or declaratory relief (Dec being just as mere question of "Was this Unfair") and a yes, leads you into your damages hearing to score the level of bad mojo and slip of hand tricks brought you into Court to begin with-and cases handed down from SC's throughout the US have been cracking the whip on wrongful auto repossessions and long term finance cheap tricks ever growing in the field.

1K is better than a date at Taco Bell, I'm assuming you have been having EFTA issues - pursue them all! Good luck!

Send me case links if you come upon some compelling opinions.

If a band of attorney's came at them from all sides - we could stop the spread of Suntrust dread.

I'm all in-and feel like I'm holding the Royal Flush.

I filed a chapter 13 several years ago and the court scheduled a payoff schedule to pay all lenders. The chapter 13 was dismissed last year and my vehicles were paid in full thru the court including Suntrust. GMAC sent my title and so did Delta Credit Union. Suntrust said I still owed the interest on the loan and will not send the title. I visited the branch on several occasions trying to get resolution on the matter and was told I would have to contact them directly. I did and could not find out if I had a balance, what it was, and how I could settle the issue. What a bunch of blood suckers! STAY AWAY FROM SUNTRUST, THEY LOVE YOU IF YOU ARE PUTTING MONEY IN BUT IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM, JUST TRY TO ASK FOR ASSISTANCE

Car Repossed Said I hadnt made a payment in 52 days

On Nov 4 2014 I was totally humiliated by Suntrust Bank. I woke up to my car being gone. I thought my car had been stolen. I found out later in the day that suntrust had come and repossed my car. I had always paid my payment . Have had the car for 2 years. When I called suntrust they were rude and nasty. They insisted that I was 45 days late on a payment. I stated there is no way and how can you just pick up my car without any notification what so ever. They claimed they had left me a message . I told them that they had contacted me about lowering my car payment and had told me not to make apayment in September that I was to call back on the 29th of September which I did and tell them that I wanted to lower my payments. I never heard anymore from them til they hauled my car away in the middle of a Wednesday early morning. I had to pay 2800 dollars to get my car back. 849.00 in interest 25 dollars in fees 485 in repossession fees and then had me pay 1000 dollars in principal. what a scam I am seeking legal help. Don't use them for anything/

Suntrust fees

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Suntrust has penalized me 84 dollars , and counting for a .72 cents negative balance. This happened as a result of an insurance debt. This same insurance debt was not authorized, as I cancelled the insurance. It is hopeless to speak to them. I don't even know if I am talking to a human being. I have never felt so cheated. And the coldness. The experiences with Suntrust have been bad My debt lists constantly gets adjusted to the point that I don't know what the *** I did online banking. Thank God I will be changing my bank to Bank of America. I hope it is better.

Suntrust - Account Review from Concord, North Carolina

Suntrust claims you must specifically ask for overdraft coverage (they put that in writing in post cards recently mailed out to their customers) I on the other hand when I opened my account seven months ago opted to not have overdraft coverage and instead have the transaction declined so I would know I did not have the money in the account and be prompted to make a deposit thereby bypassing any bounced check fees . Despite this FACT they ran 12 transactions through !!! some of them only five dollar debit card purchases and charged me $36 for EACH one totaling almost $350 in fees!!! That is my entire child support for thIS month- I am DEVASTATED!!!!

Same issue, re a mistake I discovered too late. Early last week I inadvertently handed a store clerk my Sun Trust debit card, instead of a credit card, for a large appliance purchase.

My error immediately created an overdrafted/negative checking account. Something that hasn't happened in years. I'm very diligent about keeping my bank accounts current. (I'm renovating my home & very tired.

My fault completely for making such a *** mistake. No excuses, just explaining why it happened.). Here is what's more concerning - I do not have overdraft protection on this debit/checking account. So, luckily, by law, the purchase should have been DECLINED & not cause an overdraft situation.

A decline would have also nudged me that I was using the wrong card. Instead, SunTrust allowed the transaction. Along with three other lesser debit card purchases that day, knowing I was tumbling deeper into overdrafts. (Remember, I thought I had enough money in my checking to cover the purchases.) They also rearranged the order of the day's purchases, highest dollar amount to lowest, to multiply the quantity of overdrafts.

At least one lesser charge would have cleared. Three, if the dollar amounts were processed lowest to highest. And, all four of the day's debit transactions took two full days to clear/process. My Sun Trust debits usually withdraw/clear pretty quickly, same day or next.

If they had, this occurrance, I'd have had enough money in my checking, again, to cover most of that day's charges. To make matters worse, when I accessed my Sun Trust alerts messages this weekend, to see why I didn't receive a "low balance" alert e-mail, I saw that all my alert settings had been wiped clean & reset back to "None". Now I have four overdrafts to resolve, possibly $36 each. Sadly, two fees are for purchases less than $10.

I am so sick today, over this situation, and will try to resolve it in person. Beg for mercy, I guess. Wish me luck. From what I'm reading, similar issues, it may not go very well.

If so, I'm closing all my Sun Trust accounts finding a bank with better banking practices. I'll leave an update, if I can.

I was charged by Suntrust for TWO mortgage payments

Suntrust charged my bank I wrote check on for mortgage payment. 7 days later they charged that bank AGAIN- but did not credit the mortgage for 2 payments. They just kept the money. As of today- it has been 7weeks & 2 days- since they 'stole' my money. The CEO in Atlanta has all info, Richmond Va. has all info. I've used 63$ in pay as you go phone charges. 45$ in gas to all their Roanoke Va. branches, and 22$ in ink. Attorney wants 2500$ retainer to 'get my money back'.This has to be the absolute WORST bank on the planet. Attorney General and Va. banking commission are next. No one would believe the 40+ stories I've gotten from 20 different people. It is truly unbelievable. I am in the process of switching my mortgage to another lender.

Suntrust - Account Review

For the last three or four paychecks suntrust has been memo posting my payroll checks. The company I work for is a large company and has no payroll problems or complaints.

Last check deposited was 8/14/2014 and suntrust tells me the funds will not be available till 8/21/14. The company made good on the other payroll checks and I'm sure this one is to. I c s lied branch and was told to come in and have check cashed and then deposit the cash in my account. So if the check is good to cash over the counter why would it not be go if I just deposited it directly into my account.

I would advise leave regular banks alone and stick with a credit union. Stay away from Suntrust Bank.
